HM The Queen appointed The Countess of Verulam as Her Majesty's Lord-Lieutenant for Hertfordshire upon the retirement of Sir Simon Bowes Lyon KCVO in June 2007.
The Countess of Verulam (Dione) is married to the Earl of Verulam. They have four grown-up children. 'Lady Verulam as an artist has undertaken various stencilling commissions including at Cliveden and Hambleton Hall, several churches and for private clients and decorators. In 1980 she was a co-founder of Verona Stencilling. She was High Sheriff of Hertfordshire in 2002/3. She co-chaired Alban in Glory and also Alban 2000. She has served on various National Trust Committees and on the Resources Acceptance in Lieu of Tax Panel. She is a liveryman of The Goldsmiths' Company. In addition, she is involved with the organisations listed below.
For many years she lived at Gorhambury where she was involved with the running of the house, garden and estate.
During this time she has worked on various stencilling commissions for both private and public buildings and for the last ten years she has regularly exhibited her paintings in London and elsewhere both in group and solo exhibitions.
