Lord Lieutenant
Hertfordshire
A High Sheriff is appointed for each county by Her Majesty and the Privy Council. Their office is for one year, starting on or after March 25th and they are charged with the task of protecting the judges in the Crown Court and of representing the Sovereign in relations with the Police. This aspect of the office is essentially titular although the High Sheriff has a wider brief to work with the voluntary sector in crime prevention, HM Prisons and probation.
Hertfordshire County Council is the only council that covers all of Hertfordshire. It provides many of the services we take for granted: the Fire and Rescue Service, schools, social care for nchildren and for adults, maintains the roads and pavements and provides the libraries and many other services.
