The Lord Lieutenant of Hertfordshire

The current HM Lord Lieutenant of Hertfordshire, The Countess of Verulam DL, was appointed by Her Majesty The Queen upon the retirement of Sir Simon Bowes Lyon KCVO in June 2007. More information about Lady Verulam, her family, charitable work, patronages and presidencies can be found by following the link entitled "The Lord Lieutenant"

The Vice and Deputy Lord-Lieutenants

The Lord-Lieutenant is supported by a Vice Lord-Lieutenant and up to 57 Deputy Lord-Lieutenants. Their duties and roles are explained under "Vice Lord Lieutenant" and "Deputy Lieutenants".

The Lieutenancy was delighted earlier this year to learn that Her Majesty The Queen had approved the principle, design and regulations for a badge to be worn by Deputy Lieutenants when representing the Lord-Lieutenant.  The new badge, which can be seen below, is worn by male Deputy Lieutenants on a broad ribbon around the neck, with the badge hanging at the top of the sternum whilst lady Deputy Lieutenants may wear the badge similarly or mounted on a court bow (without tails) worn on the left breast.

Several of Hertfordshire’s Deputy Lieutenants have already purchased a badge which they are able to wear when representing the Lord Lieutenant.

The badge on the top left hand side of the page is the badge worn by lady Lord Lieutenants when on official Lieutenancy business.
